The Best at What She Does
"Joy Smith was my Massage Therapist for several years prior to relocating to California. She is the BEST at what she does. I've tried plenty of other practitioners; truth told, no one compares with Joy for skilled, compassionate, and intuitive massage. My first experience with Joy left me so relaxed & emptied my mind so completely that I got lost driving home! Joy cares about her clients . She is kind, exceptionally professional, an excellent communicator and filled with integrity. Joy always found the spot(s) that needed the most attention. I highly recommend you give her a try…..you will not be disappointed!"

Research shows that massage therapy decreases muscle tension, increases circulation and calms the nervous system.
The result of this massage therapy is a cascade of physical and mental benefits that can help alleviate a wide variety of conditions.
With its calming touch, massage signals your nervous system that it's okay to take a break, encouraging your body and mind to relax and unwind.
If you have a body, you can benefit from massage!
Stress: Massage reduces stress, improving your outlook, increasing your energy, and reducing the likelihood of incurring injury and illness.
Pain relief: Muscles can become so contracted that they press on nerves. Massage to reduce muscle spasms brings rapid relief.
Recovery: Massage supports reclaiming your health following emotional and physical trauma. It offers a safe place to experience positive touch and to reconnect with your body and your emotions.
Healing Injury: Massage reduces inflammation by helping to remove wastes and bringing nutrition to injured cells.
Pregnancy: Specific Massage techniques employed during your pregnancy and postpartum weeks relieve discomfort and support adjusting to the new circumstances in your life.
Adverse effects of limited activity: Massage improves your sense of vitality and alertness when you are forced to limit your physical activity.
Injury prevention: Massage can relieve both chronic and acute tension caused by favoring or forcing tight muscle groups and thereby prevent injuries.
Born and raised in New Jersey, I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. I then lived in Virginia, where I sustained a serious and painful injury. While recovering, Massage Therapy provided astoundingly positive results and my life was forever changed.
In 1984 I completed the requirements to become a licensed Massage Therapist. For 15 years I worked closely with a perinatalogist in Virginia treating individuals with high-risk pregnancies. Additionally, teaming with other health care professionals continues to inform and expand my abilities.
In 2007 I relocated to Monterey County. Following a year and a half on staff at the Esalen Institute, I opened my therapeutic massage practice in downtown Monterey. In addition to maintaining a private practice throughout my career I am proud to have worked as a massage provider in several of the world's most esteemed spas -- The Spa at Pebble Beach Resort and at the Sonoma Mission Inn.
